This year’s free Holiday Concert by the award-winning Rappahannock Choral Society will be presented Saturday, December 16, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, December 17, at 3:00 PM. Both performances will be at Chancellor High School, 6800 Harrison Road, in Fredericksburg. About 1,000 people are expected to attend the concerts during the weekend.
The 2017 concert is being held nearly two weeks later than usual due to a conflict with scheduled school activities. By popular request, the Saturday evening performance will begin at 7:30 rather than 8:00.
Among the featured musical treats this year are many favorite seasonal standards, including “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”,” It’s the Holiday Season”, and the lively Barbra Streisand version of “Jingle Bells.” One particular delightful and catchy presentation will be selections from the Broadway musical “Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” There also will be a medley of songs from classical composers Vivaldi, Bach and Handel, which concludes with a rousing rendition of the “Hallelujah Chorus.” There is even a song that highlights the annual seasonal dispute―at least in some households―whether to have an artificial tree or a real one
The 65-voice audition-only regional chorus is led by award-winning Conductor and Artistic Director Linda Monner and accompanied by former University of Mary Washington classical piano teacher, Marilla Haas, one of the area’s most accomplished pianists. This will be Linda’s last Christmas Concert as Conductor of the RCS as she will be retiring after the 2018 Spring Concert performances on Mother’s Day weekend.
The Rappahannock Choral Society is a not-for-profit, audition-only, regional chorus in partnership with Spotsylvania County Parks and Recreation, a Partner in Education with Spotsylvania County Schools and a Partner in Community Service with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Department.
